No language model · No autocomplete novel

Writing software without AI. On purpose.

Edda is a complete writing studio with zero AI text generation. The assistant inside it sharpens your sentences. It never writes them. Your words stay yours, and never train a model.

No AI generation·Fully offline·No training on your work·One-time purchase

The entire point of writing is that you wrote it. Edda is built on that one idea.

There is no language model inside Edda. Nothing autocompletes your novel, nothing drafts in your voice, and nothing you type is sent away to be learned from. The craft stays in your hands. The software just makes the desk a better place to work.

A real assistant, not a ghostwriter

What an assistant does when it cannot write for you.

The Skald is deterministic. It reads your chapter and hands back facts, computed locally with rules, not predictions.

  • Inline spelling with a personal dictionary for invented words and names
  • Sixteen categories of style flags: passive voice, filter words, cliches, adverb pileups, repetition and more
  • Six readability scores, so you can see how a page actually reads
  • 135 hand-written prompts to break a block, none of them generated

How the Skald works

The Skald deterministic writing assistant showing a chapter readability and style report with no AI generation
A report on your writing. Not a rewrite of it.

Local · Offline · Yours

Three reasons there is no AI here.

Not a setting you switch off. A choice baked into how Edda is built.

No model

Rules, not predictions

The Skald is built from craft logic. It counts, checks and flags. It cannot invent a sentence, because there is no model inside it to invent one.

No network

It runs on your machine

Every check happens offline. Your manuscript never leaves your device, with no account and no cloud required to write, edit or publish.

No training

Your words stay yours

Nothing you write is uploaded or used to train anything. Your book belongs to you from the first line to the last.

More than a clean editor

No AI, and still a complete studio.

Refusing AI does not mean refusing power. Edda is a full toolkit for serious authors, all of it without a model.

The landscape, plainly

Why this page needs to exist

Five years ago "writing software without AI" described almost everything. It now describes a shrinking set, because the default surfaces changed underneath writers. Checked September 2026:

To be fair about it, Edda is not the only holdout. Scrivener has no AI either, and its makers have said they have no plans to add it. We would rather tell you that than pretend otherwise. What Edda adds is Linux and Android, deeper worldbuilding and structure tooling, and an assistant that actively reports on your prose without ever writing it.

Weighing the choice

Want it to draft for you, or not?

If you are deciding between an app that generates prose and one that never does, here is an honest side by side.

Edda compared with an AI writing tool

Questions, answered

No AI, answered plainly.

Does Edda use AI to write my book?

No. Edda has no AI text generation. The Skald is deterministic and rule-based. It checks spelling, flags style issues, scores readability and offers prompts, all computed locally. It never drafts a sentence for you.

What does the Skald do if it does not generate text?

It analyses what you wrote: inline spelling with a personal dictionary, sixteen categories of style flags such as passive voice and cliches, six readability scores, and 135 hand-written prompts to break a block. It makes your sentence sharper, it does not replace it.

Will my writing train an AI model?

No. Edda runs fully offline and contains no language model. Nothing you write is uploaded or used to train anything. Your manuscript stays on your own device.

Is Edda a full writing app or just a no-AI editor?

A full studio. Manuscript editor, worldbuilding, story structure, beta-reader tools and professional EPUB, PDF and DOCX publishing, all in one app, all without AI generation.

Write it yourself.
Every word of it.

A complete writing studio that respects that the book is yours. No model, no network, no renewal notice. One purchase, fully offline.
