Built on TipTap, the framework behind some of the world's best writing tools. Bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, headings, lists, blockquotes and code blocks, all with intuitive keyboard shortcuts.
Organise your manuscript the way you think about it. Nest scenes inside chapters and chapters inside parts, drag them into new positions, and track each one with its own status and synopsis.
A minimal writing environment that fills the window, where nothing competes for your attention. Typewriter scrolling keeps your active line centred and the interface fades away until you need it.
The editor
Every sentence deserves the right formatting. Edda gives you complete control over your prose without burying you in menus.

Organisation
A novel is not a single document. It is a constellation of scenes, chapters, parts and acts, each with its own purpose and place. Edda embraces that complexity.
Create a nested manuscript tree that mirrors the real structure of your book. Drag scenes between chapters and chapters between parts. Fold a whole part away to focus on the section that matters right now. Every part, chapter and scene carries its own status (To Do, Draft, Revised or Done), so you can see progress at a glance. Attach notes and a synopsis to any scene without cluttering the prose itself, place plot beats on scenes, and split a scene in two at the cursor when it grows too long.
Flow state
The hardest part of writing is not the writing itself. It is staying in the zone long enough to let the words accumulate.

Versatility
Some writers think best when they speak. Others write scripts, or songs. Edda adapts to the work, not the other way around.
On Windows, macOS and Linux, voice dictation runs on a Whisper speech model bundled with Edda, so your spoken words become text without a byte leaving your computer. On iPhone and iPad, Edda uses Apple's on-device recognition. On Android, dictation stays on the phone when the offline language pack for your language is installed; without it, Android's speech service may process the audio. Pace around your room, dictate dialogue while you act it out, narrate scene descriptions while your hands are free. And when the project is not a novel, switch modes: twelve are built in, from screenplay, sitcom, stage play and audio drama to podcast, comic, picture book, poetry, lyrics, academic writing and interactive fiction.
Output
Your manuscript lives in Edda, but it should go wherever you need it to.
Export a scene, a chapter or your entire book in PDF for print-ready review, DOCX for agents and editors who live in Word, Markdown for technical workflows and version control, HTML for web publishing, or plain text for maximum portability. Italics, bold and the rest of your formatting come with it. And you will not lose a sentence: Edda saves automatically a few seconds after you stop typing, and the Save button is there whenever you want to save at once. If the app or the computer goes down before a save, crash recovery offers back the unsaved text the next time you open the scene.
Complete feature list
All writing features are included with every Edda purchase. No tiers, no add-ons, no feature gates.
Fonts and sizes, colours, alignment, line and paragraph spacing, indents, a style menu, numbered and bullet lists, checklists, blockquotes and code blocks, on a page with margins you set.
Nested manuscript structure with drag-and-drop reordering, from parts down to individual scenes, and parts that fold away.
Minimal interface with typewriter scrolling that keeps your active line centred. The world disappears so your story can appear.
Sprints from 5 to 180 minutes. Track words per sprint, keep your records, and find your most productive windows.

Word frequency for a scene, a chapter or the whole manuscript, with weak words and adverbs marked in the text, configurable 2 to 5 word n-grams, and repetition-proximity detection. Export any analysis as CSV.
